What You’ll Do

  • Estimate future housing, business, and community facility needs to support urban expansion and renewal.
  • Lead and manage the projections for traffic and transportation needs to inform effective planning strategies.
  • Oversee the application of town and regional planning principles in land development projects.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements related to community development and housing codes.
  • Compile spatial development frameworks as part of the Integrated Development Planning (IDP) processes.
  • Develop guidelines and evaluate land use management schemes to enhance regional planning efforts.
  • Manage and allocate resources and funds to achieve departmental objectives efficiently.
  • Provide technical consulting services to minimize architectural risks and ensure project success.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing initiatives to support professional development within the department.
  • Monitor and evaluate subordinates’ performance to align with departmental goals and standards.

What You’ll Need

  • National Senior Certificate plus a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban, Town, City, or Regional Planning or an equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of six years’ post-qualification experience in Town and Regional Planning.
  • Compulsory registration with the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN) as a Professional Town and Regional Planner.
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively.
  • Extensive knowledge of town and regional planning processes, compliance, and relevant legislation.
  • Strong skills in strategic management, problem-solving, decision-making, and team leadership.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of computer-aided applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to manage conflict and foster positive relationships.
