What You’ll Do

• Assist in developing and formulating language legislation and policies.
• Facilitate the implementation of language policies across government departments.
• Promote multilingualism as a key principle within the province.
• Establish language units in various government departments.
• Coordinate strategic engagements with the Eastern Cape Language Forum.
• Facilitate translation and interpreting services to ensure accessibility.
• Develop term lists in all official languages of the province.
• Conduct research on difficult terms and facilitate their verification and approval.
• Develop orthography for isiXhosa and Sesotho.
• Provide administrative support for language and literature components.
• Coordinate literature development programs and engage with relevant bodies.
• Manage financial and human resources, ensuring effective allocation and development.
• Compile monthly and quarterly reports on progress and activities.

What You’ll Need

• A National Senior Certificate and a National Diploma (NQF Level 6) or preferably a Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in Linguistics, Language Planning, Translation, or a related field.
• A minimum of three years of relevant work experience at a supervisory level in languages and literature development.
• Experience translating documents from English to isiXhosa is essential.
• Knowledge of procurement processes will be an advantage.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
