About the Role
The Department of Economic Development and Tourism is seeking a passionate and dynamic individual for the role of Assistant Director: Tourism Destination Development. This position is based in various districts of Limpopo, including Polokwane, Giyani, Lebowakgomo, Thohoyandou, and Modimolle. What You’ll Do
- Develop and implement strategies for tourism destination development and ecotourism.
- Manage and coordinate the provincial tourism spatial plan and infrastructure plans.
- Provide technical support to community-based tourism projects.
- Oversee route and icon development to support provincial tourism growth.
- Coordinate the implementation of tourism transformation programs and related events.
- Draft reports and motivations to mobilize resources for tourism development.
- Foster relationships with stakeholders in the tourism sector.
- Implement rural tourism, culture, heritage, and mass tourism strategies.
- Identify tourism business opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
- Manage resources in compliance with relevant legislation and directives.
What You’ll Need
- An NQF Level 6 qualification in Tourism, Tourism Management, Development Studies, Ecotourism Management, or a related field.
- Three to five years of experience in the tourism sector at an Administrative Officer level.
- Valid driver’s license (with exceptions for persons with disabilities).
- Strong knowledge of tourism empowerment programs and capacity-building skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in computer applications such as MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks under pressure.
- Project management, event management, and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, planning, and conflict management skills.
