What You’ll Do

  • Develop and implement legislation and policies related to intercountry adoption.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the Department of Social Development Adoption Forum.
  • Monitor inter-country adoptions by collaborating with local and international stakeholders.
  • Assess and verify inter-country adoption applications according to established standards.
  • Manage agreements on inter-country adoptions and ensure compliance with legal frameworks.
  • Supervise and mentor Social Work Policy Developers within the unit.
  • Stay informed about new developments in social work relevant to intercountry adoption.
  • Oversee administrative functions required for the effective operation of the unit.

What You’ll Need

  • A recognised Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or an equivalent qualification.
  • Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as a Social Worker.
  • A minimum of ten years’ relevant experience in social work, with at least five years in social work policy development.
  • Strong knowledge of public service legislation and childcare protection frameworks.
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills.
  • Proficient networking and coordination abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated professional counselling and policy analysis skills.
  • Ability to manage financial resources and compile complex reports.
  • Attributes such as adaptability, creativity, and the ability to work under pressure.
