About the Role

The Department of Social Development is seeking a Social Work Policy Manager Grade 1 based in Pretoria at the HSRC Building. This pivotal role involves developing, facilitating, monitoring, and supporting the implementation of policies and programs that focus on preventing and responding to crime and violence, particularly Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). As a leader in public service, you will play a crucial part in empowering victims and ensuring that effective support systems are in place within the community, making a tangible difference in people’s lives across South Africa.

In this role, you will coordinate and oversee the efforts of national Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) that deliver crucial Victim Empowerment Programme services. Your leadership will guide the implementation of the National Strategic Plan on GBVF, enhancing service delivery through improved coordination and referral pathways. What You’ll Do

  • Develop and implement policies and strategies aimed at preventing and responding to Gender-Based Violence and Femicide.
  • Coordinate the funding and compliance of national NPOs delivering Victim Empowerment Programme services.
  • Lead the facilitation of the National Strategic Plan on GBVF, ensuring effective service delivery by NPOs.
  • Establish and support Khuseleka One Stop Centres and GBV shelters, aligning them with policy frameworks.
  • Monitor and evaluate sheltering services to ensure quality and compliance at all levels of service delivery.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across government and civil society to enhance program effectiveness and partnerships.
  • Manage the policy unit, ensuring efficient use of resources and continuous research to inform policy development.

What You’ll Need

  • A recognized Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or an equivalent qualification.
  • Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as a Social Worker.
  • A minimum of ten years’ social work experience, with at least five years in social work policy development.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Victim Empowerment Programme and legislation related to Gender-Based Violence.
  • Strong competencies in programme development, project management, and financial management.
  • Excellent communication, networking, and report writing skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and collaboratively within a team.
