What You’ll Do

• Study case dockets thoroughly to prepare for prosecution.
• Decide on the institution of and conduct criminal proceedings.
• Draft charge sheets, indictments, and other essential court documents.
• Represent the State in all courts, effectively presenting cases.
• Lead and cross-examine witnesses, addressing the court on matters of conviction and sentence.
• Prepare cases for court, including the acquisition of additional evidence.
• Attend to representations and prepare legal opinions and heads of argument.
• Conduct prosecutions on behalf of the State in criminal matters.
• Mentor and coach junior staff, ensuring quality work and providing guidance.
• Promote collaboration and customer satisfaction within the criminal justice system.

What You’ll Need

• An LLB or an appropriate legal qualification for serving prosecutors seeking promotion.
• At least eight (8) years of post-qualification legal experience in civil and/or criminal litigation.
• Demonstrable competency in acting independently and professionally.
• Right of appearance as contemplated in section 25(2) of the NPA Act, 32 of 1998.
• Five (5) years of experience in legal practice is an added advantage.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent decision-making ability.
• Computer literacy, including knowledge of MS Office programs.
• A valid driver’s license.
