What You’ll Do

• Conduct criminal proceedings on behalf of the State and represent the NPA in court.
• Study case dockets to assess the merits of cases and decide on prosecution.
• Prepare cases for court by guiding investigations and consulting with witnesses.
• Draft charge sheets, indictments, and other court documents.
• Present evidence, cross-examine witnesses, and address the court on matters of conviction and sentencing.
• Mentor and supervise junior advocates, ensuring quality checks on their work.
• Manage allocated case portfolios and assist in high-profile matters.
• Maintain accurate records and assist in compiling statistics related to criminal prosecutions.

What You’ll Need

• An LLB degree or an appropriate legal qualification for serving prosecutors.
• A minimum of eight years of post-qualification legal experience in civil and/or criminal litigation.
• At least six years of relevant criminal court work experience in advocacy and drafting.
• Right of appearance as outlined in the NPA Act, 32 of 1998.
• Strong skills in legal research, interpersonal communication, and analytical thinking.
• Proficiency in prosecuting or litigation experience relating to commercial crimes and tax evasion.
• Ability to work independently and manage court and case flow effectively.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to various courts as required.
