What You’ll Do

• Render interpreting services during various court proceedings, including criminal, civil, and family matters.
• Interpret non-verbal gestures and dramatic expressions to ensure accurate communication.
• Liaise with supervisors regarding the need for foreign language interpreters.
• Translate legal documents, ensuring accuracy and adherence to legal terminology.
• Study and analyze source documents to prepare for court sessions.
• Conduct research and consultations with relevant parties for effective interpretation.
• Maintain a glossary register of legal terms and their meanings.
• Assist in administrative duties to support the judiciary and court management.

What You’ll Need

• A National Diploma in Interpreting or an equivalent qualification in languages at NQF level 6 with 360 credits.
• At least one year of practical experience in an interpreting environment, or a Grade 12 certificate with ten years of relevant experience.
• Proficiency in English and Isizulu, with additional language skills in Xhosa, Sotho, Tswana, or Zulu being advantageous.
• A valid driver’s license is considered an added advantage.
• Strong knowledge of relevant legal Acts and Regulations, as well as excellent communication and analytical skills.
• Ability to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
