The East London Museum is looking for a dedicated Scientist Production Ornithologist to join its team. What You’ll Do

  • Develop and implement methodologies, policies, systems, and procedures for the Ornithology Collection.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of ornithological programs.
  • Identify gaps within current practices and propose appropriate interventions.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Create public awareness campaigns to promote scientific knowledge.
  • Compile and present scientific data and evaluations.
  • Conduct literature studies and engage in continuous professional development.
  • Mentor and train candidate scientists to ensure knowledge transfer.
  • Liaise with relevant councils on scientific matters and represent the museum in various forums.
  • Prepare proposals and reports as needed.

What You’ll Need

  • A National Senior Certificate and currently registered for a M.Sc. Degree in Natural Science with at least three years of relevant experience in a natural science environment.
  • An M.Sc. or PhD in a related field is considered an added advantage.
  • Registration or proof of intention to register with the South African Council of Natural Scientific Professionals (SACNASP).
  • Knowledge of public service regulations and collection management standards for natural science museums.
  • Strong understanding of Ornithology and the scientific method.
  • Proficient in computer software, including database management and MS Office.
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and people management skills.
  • A valid driver’s license.
