What You’ll Do

  • Administer the rights and permits application processes in line with the law.
  • Conduct research to identify potential conflicts between existing rights and land use.
  • Provide informed advice to decision-makers within the department.
  • Manage the collection of royalties and prospecting fees in compliance with legislation.
  • Identify and address illegal prospecting and mining activities.
  • Process surface usage applications and evaluate their relation to mineral exploitation.
  • Support the Regional Mining Development and Environmental Committee (RMDEC) in its functions.

What You’ll Need

  • A Bachelor’s Degree/BTech Degree/Advanced Diploma in Law or an LLB (NQF 7).
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the industry.
  • Basic knowledge of previous minerals legislation and the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA).
  • Familiarity with departmental policies regarding mineral regulation.
  • Strong report writing and submission skills.
  • Excellent communication abilities, both written and oral.
  • The ability to mediate between parties in potentially contentious situations.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, especially in demanding environments.
