About the Role
The Department of Correctional Services is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual for the position of Regional Head: Facilities in the vibrant Eastern Cape region. This critical role involves coordinating the implementation of policies, procedures, and standards that enhance the operational effectiveness of facilities within the correctional system. By ensuring that our facilities are well-maintained and compliant with health and safety regulations, you will directly contribute to the safety and rehabilitation of those in our care, making a significant impact on community welfare and public service in South Africa.
In this role, you will oversee the assessment and continuous improvement of facility maintenance strategies, ensuring that all operational structures are adequately equipped and resourced. Your expertise will guide the management of human resources, finances, and performance information, ultimately leading to the effective delivery of municipal services. Your work will not only uphold the standards of the Department but also foster a culture of safety and quality within the correctional environment, making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and communities across the region.

What You’ll Do
- Coordinate and implement policies and procedures for facility management.
- Monitor the effectiveness of operational strategies and maintenance standards.
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Oversee the training and equipping of maintenance teams.
- Manage human resources, finances, and asset performance.
- Conduct quality assessments of facilities to ensure proper maintenance.
- Continuously update the building and maintenance programme in line with departmental strategies.
What You’ll Need
- An undergraduate qualification (NQF level 7) in Building Science or equivalent, as recognized by SAQA.
- A certificate for entry into the Senior Management Services (SMS) from the National School of Government.
- A minimum of five years of experience in a middle or senior managerial role within a similar environment.
- Registration with the relevant professional council in South Africa is advantageous.
- Valid driver’s license and security clearance.
- Strong knowledge of the South African Criminal Justice System and correctional services architecture.
- Proficient in computer applications and performance management.
