What You’ll Do
- Implement and monitor the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
- Develop and enforce OHS policies to ensure compliance.
- Maintain accurate safety records and documentation.
- Conduct health and safety awareness sessions for employees.
- Investigate and report on workplace incidents and accidents.
- Address health and safety concerns raised by employees promptly.
- Arrange medical surveillance for eligible employees.
- Identify workplace hazards and conduct risk assessments.
- Measure exposure levels to identified hazards.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits.
- Organize OHS Committee meetings and facilitate discussions.
- Implement control measures to minimize risks.
- Compile and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual OHS reports.
- Promote workplace safety initiatives and best practices.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on OHS matters.
- Conduct emergency evacuation exercises and drills.
- Supervise and support subordinate staff in safety protocols.
What You’ll Need
- National Senior Certificate plus a relevant National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Management, or Occupational Hygiene.
- Registration with the South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (SAIOSH) or Southern African Institute for Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH).
- A valid driver’s license.
- 1-2 years of relevant work experience in an Occupational Health and Safety environment.
- Knowledge of Public Service Regulations, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and related legislation.
- Strong skills in incident investigation, hazard identification, and risk assessment.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Willingness to work extended hours and travel as needed.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing work environments.
