What You’ll Do

• Identify, name, and classify fossil species based on morphology and evolutionary relationships.
• Conduct field surveys and excavations to gather fossil specimens.
• Perform laboratory analyses, including fossil preparation and microscopic studies.
• Curate paleontology collections and ensure their preservation and accessibility.
• Develop methodologies and policies for scientific research and data management.
• Monitor and evaluate program performance while providing scientific support and advice.
• Create public awareness initiatives to promote the importance of paleontology.
• Collaborate with various stakeholders and present research findings at public forums.
• Mentor and train candidate scientists, fostering skills and knowledge transfer.
• Supervise and manage scientific work processes and human capital development.

What You’ll Need

• A National Senior Certificate and a Master’s degree in Paleontology, Geology, Geo Science, or Zoology with a focus on Eastern Cape Palaeoscience.
• Compulsory registration as a professional Natural Scientist with SACNASP.
• A minimum of three years of relevant experience in a museum natural science environment.
• Knowledge of curating paleontology collections, fieldwork, and fossil preparation.
• Strong communication and report writing skills, with an ability to engage with diverse audiences.
• Familiarity with public service regulations and knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Eastern Cape Museum Act and National Heritage Act.
• A valid driver’s license.
