What You’ll Do
- Manage and communicate effectively to ensure the efficient operation of theatre lists.
- Participate in the collection of statistics and the completion of medicolegal documents.
- Deliver comprehensive after-hours emergency and urgent surgical services to patients in various units.
- Conduct pre-operative assessments and resuscitation of surgical patients, planning appropriate management strategies.
- Perform emergency and urgent trauma surgical procedures, demonstrating proficiency in emergency UGI endoscopy and upper-GI bleeding management.
- Conduct post-operative assessments and care, investigating and managing potential complications.
- Engage in teaching and training of interns, contributing to their professional growth.
What You’ll Need
- An appropriate qualification allowing registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Surgery.
- Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Surgery.
- For Grade 1: No experience required post-registration with HPCSA.
- For Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after registration.
- For Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years’ appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after registration.
- Willingness to work sessional hours, including weekends and public holidays.
- Competency in general surgery and emergency UGI endoscopy.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and engage with all levels of staff.
- A keen interest in developing an academic career.
