What You’ll Do
- Provide general legal advisory support services to the department and Ministry.
- Manage all litigious matters involving the department and Ministry.
- Oversee the drafting, vetting, and amendment of contracts.
- Explore and implement efficiency measures within legal processes.
- Offer general legal opinions to various line functions.
- Liaise with the office of the state attorney, providing instructions and facilitating litigation documentation.
- Consult with line functions to gather instructions and manage litigation and debt files.
- Attend to requests under the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) and the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act (PAJA).
What You’ll Need
- A minimum of an LLB degree with at least 5 years of relevant post-qualification legal experience.
- Experience as an in-house legal advisor or legal/contract administrator is essential.
- Willingness to travel on an ad hoc basis and adapt to professional work schedules.
- A valid driver’s licence is required.
- Admission as an attorney or Advocate of the High Court is preferred.
- Supervisory and management experience is an added advantage.
- Specialized knowledge of contract law and litigation within an organizational context.
- Strong legal research capabilities and the ability to provide professional legal assistance.
- In-depth understanding of relevant legislation, including the Public Finance Management Act and Treasury Regulations.
