The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport is looking for a passionate Language Practitioner specializing in Sepedi to join its Head Office in Polokwane. This vital role focuses on promoting access to information through effective translation, terminology development, and literature promotion services. As a Language Practitioner, you will be responsible for translating official documents between English and Sepedi, providing term equivalents for various projects, and offering interpreting services as required. Your contributions will not only support the department’s language development initiatives but will also engage with communities across Limpopo, empowering individuals through better access to information and fostering multilingualism.

What You’ll Do

• Translate official documents from English into Sepedi and vice versa.
• Provide Sepedi term equivalents for terminology projects and ensure accuracy.
• Offer interpreting services when required to facilitate communication.
• Proofread and prepare manuscripts for literature promotion.
• Liaise with stakeholders to develop and implement language projects.
• Organize language-related events, such as terminology development projects and multilingualism promotion campaigns.

What You’ll Need

• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF level 06/07) in Languages or Language Practice with a focus on Sepedi, or an equivalent qualification recognized by SAQA.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in the translation field is advantageous.
• Valid driver’s license (except for persons with disabilities).
• Strong knowledge of languages and language policies, particularly the Limpopo Language Policy.
• Excellent communication and planning skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
• Proficiency in computer literacy and analytical skills.
