About the Role
The Department of Health is seeking a dedicated Deputy Director: SHERQ, HIV, STI, TB & COIDA to join its team at the Head Office in Polokwane. This pivotal role focuses on managing the implementation of crucial health and safety programs, including Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality (SHERQ) initiatives and the management of HIV, STI, and TB programs. By ensuring these programs are effectively rolled out, you will be making a significant impact on public health in the Limpopo region, enhancing the well-being of communities and contributing to the overall mission of the public service.
In this position, you will not only oversee health risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies but also play an essential role in developing and marketing policies that protect the health of employees across the department. Your leadership will be instrumental in participating in the Provincial AIDS Council and liaising with the Compensation Commissioner, ensuring that workplace safety and health standards are upheld. This role is crucial for fostering a safer working environment and improving health outcomes for South Africans.

What You’ll Do
- Manage the implementation of SHERQ and COIDA prescripts
- Oversee the execution of HIV, STI, and TB programs within the department
- Conduct health risk assessments and develop effective mitigation strategies
- Implement the Cheka Impilo programme to promote health awareness
- Develop an implementation plan for managing occupational injuries and diseases
- Market and promote HST and SHERQ policies throughout the department
- Participate actively in the Provincial AIDS Council and Technical Committees
- Liaise with the Compensation Commissioner regarding Injuries on Duty cases
- Manage resources effectively within the Sub-directorate
What You’ll Need
- An NQF 6 qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Nursing Science, Social Work, Environmental Health, or an equivalent recognized by SAQA
- Successful registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC), South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP), or a relevant statutory body
- A minimum of five years’ experience in the Employee Health and Wellness field, with at least three years at a supervisory level
- A valid driver’s license (except for persons with disabilities)
- In-depth knowledge of relevant health legislations, policies, and regulations
- Strong communication, conflict management, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in planning, organizing, report writing, and supervisory functions
