What You’ll Do

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Dam Control Office
  • Perform dam safety monitoring and conduct inspections
  • Maintain and update operational logbooks and schedules
  • Evaluate and enhance water supply efficiency for users
  • Ensure compliance with water abstraction regulations
  • Compile and manage budgets related to water supply functions
  • Monitor and control the release and distribution of water
  • Maintain accurate records of water balances and meter readings
  • Collect hydrological data for analysis and reporting
  • Inspect infrastructure and report on necessary maintenance
  • Implement health and safety regulations within the component
  • Coordinate dam safety activities and monitor environmental risks
  • Manage human resources related to water control operations

What You’ll Need

  • An NQF level 6 qualification in water management, water quality, or water distribution
  • A minimum of five years’ experience as a water control officer or in a related function
  • Experience with dam safety practices is highly advantageous
  • Knowledge of water distribution management for government waterworks
  • Familiarity with water-related policy implementation
  • Understanding of financial management and human resource practices
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Skills in monitoring and evaluating water utilization strategies
  • Awareness of drought and flood management principles
  • Understanding of relevant government legislation and procedures
