What You’ll Do
- Implement and oversee the Occupational Health and Safety Act and relevant regulations throughout the region.
- Manage general administration and compliance with safety regulations.
- Conduct proactive and reactive inspections in state-owned and leased facilities, including construction sites.
- Approve and monitor contractors’ health and safety plans on-site.
- Facilitate the issuance of the electrical certificate of compliance.
- Ensure the safety of essential equipment such as lifts, boilers, incinerators, and generators.
- Provide support and prepare incident reports during emergencies.
- Conduct investigations of incidents and generate comprehensive reports with recommendations.
- Organize training sessions for health and safety committee members and facilitate emergency evacuation procedures.
- Offer technical advice and attend meetings related to Occupational Health and Safety matters.
- Compile and present monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for the OHS directorate within the region.
What You’ll Need
- A minimum of a three-year tertiary qualification (NQF level 06/National Diploma) in a built environment, preferably Mechanical.
- Relevant experience in a built environment field, including supervisory roles.
- A safety management qualification or certificate is advantageous.
- Extensive knowledge of the built environment and public safety regulations.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel as required.
- Familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, 85 of 1993, and other relevant regulations.
- Understanding of the National Building Standards (SANS10400) and municipal by-laws.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with good computer literacy.
- Excellent interpersonal relations, problem-solving skills, and leadership capabilities.
- Ability to conduct incident investigations and prepare detailed reports.
