About the Role
The Department of Agriculture is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Animal Health Technician in the vibrant city of Cape Town, Western Cape. What You’ll Do
- Plan and implement effective disease control measures for livestock.
- Support the State Veterinarian in managing animal disease control and reproductive health.
- Collect samples for laboratory testing and enforce relevant animal health laws.
- Provide educational extension services to animal owners to promote best practices in animal health.
- Perform various administrative and related functions to ensure smooth operations within the department.
What You’ll Need
- A National Diploma in Animal Health recognized by SAQA.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience.
- Valid registration with the South African Veterinary Council.
- A valid Code EB driving licence.
- Competencies in fieldwork, handling animals, and managing biohazards.
- Strong communication, investigation, report writing, analytical, and interpretation skills.

Requirements
An appropriate National Diploma in Animal Health as recognized by SAQA; A minimum of 3 years appropriate experience (post-qualification experience); Valid registration with South African Veterinary Council; A valid Code EB driving licence.Competencies: Working knowledge of the following: Extensive fieldwork under varying environmental conditions; exposure to infectious diseases and biohazards; Physical mobility and ability to handle animals.
