The Department of Social Development is inviting applications for the position of Administrative Officer: Disability Assistant (Sign Language) based in Thohoyandou, located in the Vhembe District. What You’ll Do
- Provide interpreting services to facilitate communication for deaf and hard-hearing employees during meetings, workshops, and public events.
- Assist in the administration of services tailored for deaf and hard-hearing individuals, ensuring their needs are met effectively.
- Support disability awareness campaigns and participate in commemorative days and training initiatives.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance the understanding and integration of disability services within the department.
- Ensure accurate and confidential interpreting while adhering to professional ethics and standards.
What You’ll Need
- A National Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification alongside an NQF Level 6 qualification in Sign Language Interpretation, Linguistics, Education, or a related field.
- A minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role or related field.
- Proficiency in South African Sign Language (SASL) and the ability to interpret spoken language accurately.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Core competencies in strategic capability, client orientation, problem-solving, and effective communication.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a cultural sensitivity toward the deaf community.
