Key Responsibilities
Recipients of the bursary are expected to contribute to the academic environment at Sol Plaatje University through faculty or university-assigned duties. Honours and Postgraduate Diploma students are required to offer 6 hours per week, while Master’s students are expected to contribute 8 hours per week as part of their service obligations.
Requirements/Qualifications
For Honours and Postgraduate Diploma Applicants
- Achieve an average of 65% or higher in the relevant undergraduate degree.
- Complete the undergraduate qualification in the minimum prescribed time.
- Provide proof of unemployment, necessary for service obligations.
For Master’s Degree Applicants
- Obtain an average of 65% or higher in the relevant Honours degree or Postgraduate Diploma.
- Achieve 65% or higher in the research project component, where applicable.
Note: The bursary is exclusively for full-time unemployed students. Employed applicants are not eligible.
Benefits
The bursary covers tuition fees only, ensuring that students can focus on their studies without the burden of tuition costs. However, it does not cover accommodation, meals, books, or living expenses.
Award Conditions
- The bursary is awarded for one academic year only and does not carry over to the next year.
- It is restricted to tuition fees on the student account and cannot be used to pay outstanding fees.
- A new application is required each year to continue receiving the bursary.
