What You’ll Do
- Provide speech therapy services to patients in hospitals and primary healthcare facilities.
- Assess and treat speech, language, feeding, swallowing, fluency, voice, and cognitive disorders.
- Educate healthcare professionals, community health workers, and patients on speech therapy practices.
- Plan and implement health awareness activities in alignment with departmental guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team to enhance patient care.
- Collect and submit data monthly according to departmental protocols.
- Manage resources effectively, including stock management and ordering of consumables.
- Complete weekly statistics and service reports as required.
- Engage in your own professional development and facilitate in-service training as needed.
- Provide relief duty in the absence of colleagues and support supervisors as necessary.
What You’ll Need
- An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Speech Therapist and Audiologist or Speech Therapist.
- Registration with the HPCSA as a Speech Therapist and Audiologist or Speech Therapist.
- For Grade 1: No experience required post-registration; for Grade 2: Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience; for Grade 3: Minimum of 20 years’ relevant experience.
- A valid (Code B/EB) driver’s license.
- Strong report writing, clinical note, and referral writing skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to provide speech therapy services independently and as part of a team.
- Strong clinical therapeutic skills, including assessment techniques and treatment planning.

Requirements
Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Speech Therapist and Audiologist or Speech Therapist.Registration with a professional council: Registration with the HPCSA as a Speech Therapist and Audiologist or Speech Therapist.
Experience: Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA in the relevant profession in Speech Therapy or Speech Therapy and Audiology (where applicable in respect of RSA qualified employees).
1-year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in Audiology or Speech Therapy and Audiology in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years' relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in Speech Therapy or Speech Therapy and Audiology in respect of SA qualified employees.
A Minimum of 11 years' relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in Audiology or Speech Therapy and Audiology in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform community service, as required in South Africa.
Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years' relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in Speech Therapy or Speech Therapy and Audiology in respect of SA qualified employees.
A minimum of 21 years' relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in Audiology or Speech Therapy and Audiology in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform community service, as required in South Africa.
Inherent requirement of the job: A valid (Code B/EB) drivers’ licence.
Competencies (knowledge/skills): Adhere to all departmental requirements and protocols.
Excellent report, clinical note and referral writing skills.
Good computer skills (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Comply with National Core Standards and or ideal facility/clinic requirements as applicable.
Ability to provide Speech Therapy services independently and as part of a team.
Clinical therapeutic skills including assessment techniques, treatment, discharge planning and follow up as needed.
Job Duties
To provide Speech Therapy services at facility level (hospitals and primary healthcare facilities) and community level in the Garden Route District, inclusive of adult and paediatric patients with disorders in speech, language, feeding, swallowing, fluency, voice and cognition within the scope of practice of a Speech Therapist.To provide education and training to healthcare professionals, community health workers and patients and plan Speech Therapy related health awareness activities according to the health awareness calendar.
To adhere to departmental rules and values.

Daily collection and monthly submission of data as per departmental protocols.
Effective, efficient and optimal use of resource management such as managing stock and ordering consumables.
Complete weekly stats and service reports as required.

Provide relevant relief duty in absence of a peer colleague and provide support to supervisor.
