What You’ll Do

• Transform and maintain various data formats to support marine research initiatives.
• Manage and distribute information through the Marine Information Management System (MIMS).
• Develop and customize software tools to enhance operational efficiency.
• Compile reports and provide recommendations based on data analysis.
• Collaborate with research staff to identify data needs and provide technical support.
• Advocate for MIMS to stakeholders, promoting its benefits and features.
• Support the digitisation of historical datasets related to oceans and coasts.
• Conduct research to stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in data management.
• Implement web-based tools for data visualization and capture.

What You’ll Need

• A National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in science or a relevant qualification recognized by SAQA.
• Compulsory registration with SACNASP as a certificated natural scientist.
• A minimum of three (3) years of post-qualification technical (scientific) experience.
• Knowledge of information systems engineering principles and scientific data formats.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Python or MATLAB.
• Basic knowledge of web development languages such as HTML, PHP, or JavaScript is advantageous.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with effective communication abilities.
• A demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgment and manage conflicts.
