The Department of Health is seeking a dedicated Registrar (Medical) in Otorhinolaryngology to join the team at Tygerberg Hospital, located in Parow Valley, Cape Town. What You’ll Do
- Provide safe surgical care to patients in the Otorhinolaryngology department.
- Deliver peri-operative care and participate in Intensive Care management.
- Learn and practice ENT Surgery, attending tutorials and training sessions.
- Assist with the training of interns, medical students, nursing staff, and paramedics.
- Fulfill on-site after-hours duties related to the care of acute patients and inpatients.
- Engage in research initiatives and audits relevant to Otorhinolaryngology.
What You’ll Need
- A qualification that allows for registration with the Health Professions Council (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner.
- Registration with the HPCSA for Independent Practice.
- A valid (code B/EB) driver’s licence is required.
- Compulsory commuted overtime and availability for emergency after-hour call cover.
- Experience in General and/or ENT Surgery, along with FCS part 1 is advantageous.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are essential for effective collaboration.

Inherent requirement of the job: A valid (code B/EB) driver’s licence.
Commuted overtime is compulsory.
Emergency and after hour call cover.
Each Registrar will be appointed in a specific training complex but could be required to work across the platform on request.
Competencies (knowledge/skills): FCS part 1 as well as experience in research/publications.
Appropriate clinical experience in General and/or ENT Surgery.
Effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
Job Duties
Provision of safe surgical care to patients.Peri-operative care of surgical patients.
Participation in Intensive Care management.
Learn the art and science of ENT Surgery.
Attend tutorials and assist with the training of interns, medical students, nursing staff and paramedics.
On-site after-hours duties relating to care of newly arriving acute patients as well as inpatients.
Involvement in research/audits relating to ENT.
