What You’ll Do
- Facilitate learning opportunities for all nursing personnel to enhance their skills.
- Conduct in-service training and orientation programs for new nurses.
- Evaluate and assess the competencies and skills of nursing staff.
- Ensure appropriate placement and support for nursing personnel.
- Manage resources effectively to optimize service delivery.
What You’ll Need
- Basic R425 qualification (diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent for registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
- Post-basic nursing qualification in Advanced Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing Science (1-year accredited program).
- Alternatively, a 4-year bachelor’s degree in nursing or equivalent qualification allowing SANC registration.
- Registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse.
- Grade 1: Minimum 4 years of experience in nursing post-registration; Grade 2: Minimum 14 years with 10 years in Midwifery.
- Willingness to work outside of normal hours and attend professional development events.
- Knowledge of relevant health legislation and policies, nursing processes, and leadership competencies.

Requirements
Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 qualification (i.e.
diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683 plus R254) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC in Advanced Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing Science (R212).
OR A 4-year bachelor’s degree in nursing (R174) or equivalent qualification (R683 plus R1497 or R171 plus R1497) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
A post graduate diploma (R635) accredited Midwifery.
Registration with a professional council: Registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse.
Experience: Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience in Midwifery after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or post-graduate diploma in the relevant specialty.
Inherent requirements of the job: Willingness to work outside of normal working hours.
Willingness to attend congresses/courses/workshops.
Competencies (knowledge/skills): Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Department of Health Western Cape.
Knowledge of the nursing processes & procedures as outlined in Nursing Act and the SANC regulations.
Skills to plan, organise & coordinate the service by analysing, problem solving & decision making.
Leadership towards the realisation of strategic goals and objectives of the nurse training department.
Job Duties
Facilitate the development of learning opportunities for all nursing personnel.Facilitate the in-service training /updating of skills and competencies as well as the orientation programme for nurses.
Evaluate and assess the competencies and skills of nursing personnel and personal development.
Ensure the appropriate placement and accompaniment of nursing personnel.
