What You’ll Do
- Provide direction and supervision for the implementation of the nursing plan, ensuring quality patient care.
- Implement standards, practices, criteria, and indicators for nursing care.
- Maintain compliance with relevant laws and regulations in healthcare and nursing.
- Foster a constructive working relationship with nursing staff and other stakeholders.
- Efficiently utilize resources within the department.
- Assist with supervisory duties and act as a shift leader as needed.
- Deliver appropriate nursing care to patients in various wards, including Admission, Antenatal, and Labour.
- Advocate for patients’ treatment and care, addressing their needs and expectations.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure cost-effective and equitable nursing care.
What You’ll Need
- Basic R425 qualification, such as a Diploma or Degree in General Nursing and Midwifery, allowing registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- Current SANC registration (valid until 2026).
- For Grade 2: a minimum of 10 years of relevant nursing experience post-registration.
- For Grade 3: a minimum of 20 years of relevant nursing experience post-registration.
- Knowledge of nursing care processes, relevant legal frameworks, and patient rights.
- Strong communication and report writing skills.
- Proficiency in planning, organizing, and computer literacy.

Requirements
Basic R425 qualification (i.e.
Diploma/ Degree in General Nursing and Midwifery) that allows registration with the ‘South African Nursing Council’ (SANC) as a Professional Nurse and Midwife.
Current registration with the SANC (2026) Experience Grade 1: None Experience Grade 2: a minimum of 10 years appropriate/ recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
Experience Grade 3: a minimum of 20 years appropriate/ recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing Knowledge, Skills Training and Competencies Required: Knowledge of nursing care processes and procedures, nursing statutes, and other relevant legal frameworks.
Nursing Act, Health Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act.
Patient Rights Charter, Batho-Pele principles, Public Service Regulations, Labour Act, Disciplinary Code and Procedure, Grievance Procedure, etc.
Good communication skills; Report writing skills Knowledge Management; Planning & Organizing; Computer Literacy.
Job Duties
Provide direction and supervision for the implementation of the nursing plan and quality patient care.Implement standards, practices, criteria and indicators for quality nursing care.
Practise nursing and healthcare in accordance with laws and regulations relevant to nursing and healthcare.
Maintain a constructive working relationship with nursing and other stakeholders.
Utilise resources efficiently and effectively.
Assist with relief duties of the supervisor and act as a shift leader on day and night duty when necessary.
Provide appropriate nursing care to patients in the Admission, Antenatal and Labour Ward.
Promote and advocate proper treatment and care, responding to patients' needs, requirements and expectations.
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure nursing care that is cost-effective, equitable and efficient.
NB: Must be prepared to work shift as per allocation; includes night shift, weekends and Public Holidays.
