What You’ll Do

• Review and assess risk assessment reports and risk management plans in compliance with exclusion regulations.
• Develop a National Threshold Inventory to enhance the quality of waste suitable for beneficial use.
• Create methodologies and procedures to assess the threshold and risk of waste materials.
• Build a database for the beneficial use of various waste streams.
• Process registrations for National Norms and Standards related to waste.
• Develop and implement assessment tools for exclusion applications.
• Provide technical and research support to the Licensing Directorate regarding waste-derived products.
• Establish quality standards for safe composting and organic waste management.
• Conduct research on waste products and maintain environmental safety parameters.
• Formulate housekeeping standards for hazardous waste storage and handling.
• Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for exclusion applications.

What You’ll Need

• A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a relevant qualification as recognized by SAQA.
• A minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience in hydraulic, environmental, or geotechnical engineering.
• Compulsory registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer.
• Strong knowledge of the beneficial use of waste and the National Waste Management Strategy.
• Understanding of quantitative and qualitative risk assessment methodologies.
• Familiarity with waste characterization and risk profiling.
• Solid understanding of the legislative framework governing pollution and waste management.
• Excellent analytical, research, and project management skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage stakeholders effectively.
• A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
