About the Role
The Department of Health is seeking a dedicated Medical Specialist Grade 1 to 3 in Psychiatry to join the team at Karl Bremer Hospital in Bellville, Cape Town. What You’ll Do
- Deliver clinical services at a specialist level in Psychiatry across various settings, including wards, outpatients, and emergency care.
- Engage in administrative and clinical governance, including leadership and people management processes.
- Participate in OPD management, data analysis, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Teach, train, and supervise junior medical staff and medical students while participating in the hospital’s academic program.
- Collaborate with the Mental Health Care Review Board and engage in alignment efforts with district-hospital-level services.
- Supervise outreach programs for primary health care nurse practitioners, ensuring comprehensive care delivery.
What You’ll Need
- Appropriate qualification for registration as a Medical Specialist in Psychiatry with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
- Registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Psychiatry.
- For Grade 1: No experience required post-registration; for Grade 2: Minimum of 5 years’ experience; for Grade 3: Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Medical Specialist in Psychiatry.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
- Strong clinical experience in Psychiatry, particularly in district-level services.
- Excellent communication, administrative, managerial, and conflict resolution skills.
