What You’ll Do

  • Provide clinical service delivery in trauma and emergency orthopaedics at a district level.
  • Manage elective orthopaedic surgery cases and participate in outreach programmes.
  • Supervise clinical and operative activities of orthopaedic surgeons-in-training.
  • Engage in postgraduate and undergraduate teaching programmes within the department.
  • Conduct and oversee research projects and audits related to orthopaedics.
  • Train medical officers and orthopaedic registrars, focusing on relevant burden of disease.
  • Perform after-hours calls as necessary to ensure comprehensive care.

What You’ll Need

  • A qualification that allows registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Orthopaedics.
  • Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Orthopaedics.
  • For Grade 1: No experience required post-registration.
  • For Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years experience as a Medical Specialist post-registration.
  • For Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years experience as a Medical Specialist post-registration.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to perform after-hour calls when necessary.
  • Strong ethical principles, clinical skills, and computer literacy.
  • Leadership and organizational skills, along with experience in trauma and emergency orthopaedic surgery.
