What You’ll Do

  • Administer compliance monitoring in accordance with Environmental Authorisations (EA) and Environmental Management Plans (EMP).
  • Conduct compliance enforcement operations related to biodiversity conservation outside protected areas.
  • Coordinate and engage in compliance promotion and awareness initiatives.
  • Implement procedural systems and guidelines for effective inspections.
  • Record and respond to public complaints regarding non-compliance with environmental legislation.
  • Plan and execute environmental compliance inspections based on public complaints.
  • Report on compliance status and recommend necessary actions for non-compliance cases.
  • Support national and local government compliance inspection structures.
  • Investigate environmental crimes and manage related case dockets.
  • Facilitate counter-poaching operations and manage departmental resources effectively.

What You’ll Need

  • An NQF 6 qualification in Nature Conservation, Environmental Science, Environmental Law, Policing, or an equivalent qualification recognized by SAQA.
  • Three to five years of experience in Environmental Compliance and Enforcement.
  • Successful completion of the Environmental Management Inspectors (EMI) course; detective experience is advantageous.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Strong understanding of the Constitution and the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA), along with related environmental legislation.
  • Knowledge of administrative enforcement and case docket management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Project management and conflict management skills.
  • Proficiency in report writing and the ability to interpret environmental legislation.
  • Good organizational and planning management skills, along with computer literacy.
