The Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning is seeking a dedicated Environmental Officer Specialised Production to join their team in Nkangala District. This role plays a crucial part in safeguarding our environment and ensuring sustainable development within the community. As an Environmental Officer, you will be responsible for reviewing and administering applications for environmental authorisations, providing essential technical input and advice on impact management, and facilitating the implementation of Integrated Environmental Management tools. What You’ll Do
- Review and process applications for environmental authorisations in accordance with the relevant legislation.
- Draft recommendations for enforceable environmental authorisations.
- Evaluate and comment on applications for mining activities, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Assess Land Use Applications and provide constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate registers of all applications and authorisations processed.
- Provide specialised technical input on impact management to clients and stakeholders.
- Facilitate the implementation of Integrated Environmental Management tools.
- Perform administrative tasks related to environmental management functions.
What You’ll Need
- A Grade 12 qualification along with a recognised Bachelor’s Degree (NQF7) in Environmental Management, Natural Sciences, Environmental Law, or related fields.
- A minimum of four years of post-qualification experience in Environmental Management, including at least two years in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
- Registration with EAPASA as per Section 24H of NEMA.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Public Service Regulatory Framework and relevant environmental legislation.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to negotiate and demonstrate diplomacy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and experience in project administration and policy analysis.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to work effectively under pressure within strict timelines.

Requirements
Grade 12 plus a recognised Bachelor’s Degree (NQF7) or related qualification in Environmental Management, Natural Sciences, Environmental Law, or Environmental Sciences.Minimum of four (4) years post qualification experience in Environmental Management, of which at least two (2) years must be in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
Registration with EAPASA in terms of Section 24H of NEMA.
Skills And Competencies: Knowledge of relevant Public Service Regulatory Framework (Public Service Act, Public Service Regulations and Public Finance Management).
Practical knowledge of and experience in working with the National Environmental Management Act, Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, associated Instruments, and policies, guidelines, norms and standards related to Integrated Environmental Management.
Understanding and knowledge of all environmental prescripts applicable for EIA.
Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including negotiation and diplomacy.
Experience in project administration, and policy analysis and development.
Resourceful, and an ability to operate Microsoft office programmes effectively.
Ability to work under pressure within strict timelines.
Ability to write and interpret technical reports and documents.
A valid driver’s license.
