The Department of Health is looking for a Director of Development Cooperation to be based in Pretoria. What You’ll Do
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for development cooperation initiatives.
- Develop and implement strategies that support South Africa’s international health development agenda.
- Establish and strengthen partnerships with bilateral, trilateral, and multilateral stakeholders.
- Manage and mobilise resources for the health sector through official development assistance.
- Lead the creation of funding proposals, agreements, and partnership frameworks.
- Coordinate and oversee the implementation of donor-funded health programmes at various levels.
- Ensure effective monitoring and reporting of donor funds in compliance with regulations.
- Compile strategic and operational reports for management and stakeholders.
- Manage budget allocation and ensure sound financial management practices.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance management to staff.
What You’ll Need
- A Grade 12 certificate and an NQF Level 7 qualification in International Relations, Diplomacy, Social Sciences, Public Health, or Health Sciences.
- An NQF Level 8 qualification in the above fields will be an advantage.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in middle/senior management roles, particularly in international negotiations and partnership management.
- Strong understanding of Public Service policies, international relations, and foreign policy frameworks.
- Knowledge of global health diplomacy, international health systems, development cooperation, and ODA management.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and strategic leadership abilities.
- Proficiency in policy development, programme and project management, and financial management.
- Valid driver’s license and SMS pre-entry Certificate required for appointment finalization.
