About the Role

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual for the role of Chief Master, based in the National Office in Pretoria. This crucial position plays a significant role in providing strategic regulatory oversight of all Masters’ Offices across South Africa. As the Chief Master, you will ensure the lawful and efficient administration of various statutory functions, including the management of deceased estates, trusts, and related fiduciary services, which are vital for the community’s trust in our legal system.

In this role, you will not only lead regulatory oversight but also develop national standards and frameworks that enhance the governance and administration of these services. What You’ll Do

• Provide strategic national regulatory oversight for all Masters’ Offices.
• Lead the administration of deceased estates, trusts, and Guardian’s Fund services.
• Develop national standards and compliance frameworks for fiduciary services.
• Oversee policy development, legal research, and legislative reform.
• Build and maintain strategic partnerships with stakeholders, including the judiciary and legal professionals.
• Manage the administration of Family Advocate Services and obligations related to international child abduction.
• Ensure effective financial management and governance within the branch.

What You’ll Need

• An NQF Level 8 qualification in Financial Management, Business Management Law, or a related field, recognized by SAQA.
• Admission as a Chartered Accountant is an advantage.
• A minimum of eight years’ senior management experience, particularly in deceased estates, insolvency, and regulatory governance.
• Extensive knowledge of South African private and constitutional law.
• Strong strategic capability, leadership skills, and experience in managing complex regulatory environments.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and promote sound governance.
