About the Role
The Department of Planning Alignment is looking for a skilled Chief Director to join its team in Pretoria. This pivotal role not only involves leading the development and assessment of Strategic Plans, Annual Performance Plans, and Operational Plans, but also plays a crucial part in ensuring that national and provincial departments, as well as Schedule 3A and 3C public entities, meet their non-financial performance objectives. By managing and coordinating these plans, the Chief Director will contribute significantly to enhancing the effectiveness of public service delivery in South Africa.
This role is essential to the community as it fosters alignment between various government entities, ensuring that they work cohesively toward common development priorities. The Chief Director will engage with stakeholders to facilitate performance reporting, drive policy implementation, and support cross-functional work within the department, thereby creating a more integrated and efficient public service.

What You’ll Do
- Manage the development and assessment of strategic and operational plans for various government entities.
- Coordinate quarterly performance reporting related to non-financial outcomes.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagements and forums to discuss strategic planning processes.
- Develop and implement policies and guidelines that support planning processes across national and provincial departments.
- Provide professional leadership and management within the Chief Directorate, encouraging collaboration across different functions.
What You’ll Need
- An appropriate NQF level 7 qualification in Public Administration/Management, Business Administration, Social Science, or Development Studies.
- At least 8 years of experience in strategic or operational planning in the public sector, with a minimum of 5 years at a senior managerial level.
- A valid driver’s license and a good understanding of government planning and governance issues.
- Knowledge of government regulations, policies, and the National Development Plan (NDP).
- Strong management skills, including the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple projects.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a knack for negotiation and conflict management.
