About the Opportunity

The South African National Parks (SANParks) is thrilled to announce the opening of its External Bursary Programme for the 2027 academic year. This initiative is designed to empower young individuals from communities adjacent to national parks by providing them with the financial resources needed to pursue higher education. The bursary covers a wide range of qualifications, including diplomas, degrees, technical qualifications, and artisan programs at accredited public universities, universities of technology, and TVET colleges.

Key Responsibilities

As a bursary recipient, you will be expected to maintain satisfactory academic performance and uphold the values of SANParks. The program aims to increase participation among women, individuals with disabilities, and other designated groups.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • South African citizenship
  • Age between 18 and 35 years
  • Residency in a community neighboring a national park
  • Full-time study intention for 2027
  • Admission to an accredited public South African institution
  • Study towards an approved diploma, degree, TVET, or artisan qualification
  • Annual household or applicant income not exceeding R350,000
  • Submission of all required supporting documents
  • Academic merit and a 100% pass rate for current students

Benefits

The SANParks bursary offers comprehensive financial support, covering approved study-related expenses. This includes tuition, accommodation, and other necessary costs, as outlined in the bursary agreement.

Fields of Study

Eligible fields include Environmental Science, Tourism and Hospitality, Social Science, Infrastructure and Built Environment, Technical and Artisan Trades, and Emerging and Scarce Skills.
