About the Opportunity

Key Responsibilities
Applicants are responsible for securing admission to either the University of the Witwatersrand or the University of Pretoria in the fields of Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering. The bursary application process is separate from university admission, so both must be pursued concurrently.
Requirements/Qualifications
Eligible candidates must be residents of KwaZulu-Natal, aged between 15 and 34 years, and from disadvantaged backgrounds. Applicants should either have secured or be in the process of securing admission to study one of the approved engineering programmes at the specified universities.
Benefits
The KZN EDTEA bursary covers a comprehensive range of expenses, including registration and tuition fees, accommodation, prescribed books, study materials, meals, and a monthly allowance. The bursary is renewable annually, contingent on satisfactory academic performance and adherence to the Department’s bursary policy.
Required Application Documents
Applicants must submit a completed application form along with a one-page motivation letter, proof of KwaZulu-Natal residency, certified copies of their ID and their parent or guardian’s ID, proof of guardianship if applicable, June Grade 12 results, and proof of household income. Current university students must also provide their academic records, and Grade 12 learners should submit university admission letters if available. Final Grade 12 results must be submitted once released.
Proof of Residence
Acceptable proof of residence includes a municipal statement, police affidavit, or a letter from a traditional authority or local councillor.
