What You’ll Do

  • Conduct risk assessments for potential hazards affecting animal health in the designated areas.
  • Manage and coordinate the Brucellosis Scheme and assess the prevalence of TB, implementing necessary control measures.
  • Participate in the Departmental Primary Animal Health Care (PAHC) project and provide secondary intervention functions.
  • Inspect and register facilities intending to export animal commodities, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Prepare operational budget requirements for the State Veterinary office and contribute to regional budget submissions.
  • Maintain work statistics and manage data related to veterinary operations.
  • Assist in personnel planning and performance evaluations within the State Veterinary office.
  • Report to the line function manager on relevant activities and progress.

What You’ll Need

  • An appropriate NQF 8 BVSc/BVMCh Degree as recognized by SAQA.
  • Compulsory registration with the South African Veterinary Council.
  • One to two years of post-qualification experience in veterinary practices.
  • Understanding of the Animal Diseases Act (Act 35 of 1984) and the Meat Safety Act (Act 40 of 2000).
  • Knowledge of import and export protocols related to animal health.
  • Familiarity with the Animal Disease Eradication Schemes in South Africa, particularly TB and CA Schemes.
  • Proficiency in financial management, statistical analysis, and data interpretation.
  • Strong communication skills and a valid driver’s license.
