What You’ll Do
- Institute and conduct criminal proceedings on behalf of the State.
- Prepare and present cases in court, including complex matters related to sexual offences.
- Study case dockets and decide on the institution of criminal proceedings.
- Consult with witnesses and guide investigations to build strong cases.
- Draft charge sheets and other court documents with precision.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements in criminal and civil litigation.
- Track and monitor cases through the Criminal Justice System, improving turnaround times.
- Manage court rolls and secure the attendance of witnesses at court.
- Supervise and develop junior staff and other relevant role-players.
- Submit monthly reports detailing performance metrics and statistics.
What You’ll Need
- An LLB degree or an appropriate legal qualification for serving prosecutors seeking promotion.
- At least five years of post-qualification legal experience in prosecution or litigation, focusing on sexual offences and gender-based violence matters.
- Right of appearance as per section 25(2) of the NPA Act, 32 of 1998.
- Strong ability to act independently and professionally, demonstrating accountability and credibility.
- Proficient in drafting complex legal documents and charge sheets.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong decision-making capabilities and computer literacy, particularly in MS Office.
- A valid driver’s license.
