What You’ll Do

  • Study case dockets and determine the course of action for criminal proceedings.
  • Conduct prosecutions for serious and complex commercial crime and corruption matters.
  • Prepare cases for court, including drafting charge sheets and indictments.
  • Present the state’s case in court, including the examination and cross-examination of witnesses.
  • Manage court and case flow management independently.
  • Handle appeals and reviews effectively.
  • Advise police on investigations related to serious crimes and corruption.
  • Guide and supervise junior advocates in their professional development.
  • Promote integration and community involvement in alignment with criminal justice partners.

What You’ll Need

  • An LLB degree or an appropriate legal qualification for serving prosecutors seeking promotion.
  • At least eight (8) years of post-qualification experience in civil and/or criminal litigation.
  • Proven competency in acting independently and professionally, with accountability and credibility.
  • Right of appearance as per the NPA Act, 32 of 1998.
  • Experience in prosecuting common law offences such as fraud, theft, and commercial crimes.
  • Skills in legal research and legal drafting with a focus on complex matters.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • General proficiency in MS Office and other relevant computer programs.
  • A valid driver’s license.
