What You’ll Do

  • Conduct prosecutions for serious crimes, including organised crime and terrorism cases.
  • Advise police on investigations related to complex criminal matters.
  • Perform legal research to remain updated on legal developments.
  • Draft charge sheets and other essential court documents.
  • Represent the State in all court proceedings, including leading witnesses and cross-examining.
  • Prepare and argue heads of arguments for appeals.
  • Handle motion proceedings and manage appeals and reviews.
  • Oversee the prosecution process on behalf of the State.

What You’ll Need

  • An LLB or an appropriate legal qualification for serving prosecutors seeking promotion.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of post-qualification legal experience in civil and/or criminal litigation.
  • Demonstrated competency in acting independently and professionally.
  • Right of appearance as per section 25(2) of the NPA Act, 32 of 1998.
  • Strong knowledge of POCA legislation and the ability to travel if necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a good grasp of civil and/or criminal procedures.
  • High-level proficiency in advocacy and legal drafting skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
