The Department of Finance is seeking a dedicated Senior State Accountant to join its team in Mmabatho. What You’ll Do
- Supervise the implementation of complex financial legislation and policies related to debtors and expenditure.
- Reconcile all Salary Control accounts in the department’s Suspense account on a monthly basis.
- Verify and assist with calculations of remunerated leave gratuities and leave discounting payments before capturing them on PERSAL.
- Ensure that all salary reconciliations are accurate and timely.
- Manage the clearing of accounts with monthly journals and ensure all Take-On-Debts are addressed.
- Compile interdepartmental claims and facilitate salary recalls and reversals.
- Provide regular progress reports within the unit and contribute to policy development and unit-wide projects.
- Supervise and mentor subordinates, enhancing team capability and performance.
What You’ll Need
- A National Diploma or Advanced Certificate in Finance/Accounting or equivalent NQF 6 qualification.
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience in salary management, claims, payments, and reconciliation.
- An NQF 7 qualification will be an added advantage.
- A compulsory PERSAL Certificate for PERSAL Introduction.
- Knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Treasury regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and familiarity with government systems (BAS, Walker, PERSAL) is advantageous.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, planning, and organizational skills.
- Results-oriented mindset and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
