About the Role
The Department of Health is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior State Accountant (Bookkeeping) to join its Head Office in Cape Town. This pivotal role involves managing and administrating the Department’s Asset and Liability suspense accounts while also overseeing the analysis and management of the departmental debt account. As a Senior State Accountant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial integrity of the department, which directly impacts public health services across the Western Cape. Your work will not only contribute to the effective management of resources but also support the delivery of essential healthcare services to the community.
In this role, you will be responsible for consolidating inputs related to the Interim and Annual Financial Statements, controlling monthly IYM departmental reporting, and managing human resources effectively. What You’ll Do
- Manage and administer the Department’s Asset and Liability suspense accounts.
- Analyze and manage the departmental debt account and compile write-off submissions.
- Consolidate inputs for the Interim and Annual Financial Statements and control monthly IYM reporting.
- Oversee human resource management for staff, ensuring effective team leadership.
- Address audit queries with precision and control.
What You’ll Need
- A minimum of a 3-year National Diploma or Degree in Accounting.
- Relevant experience in BAS and PERSAL.
- Strong ability to work accurately with figures and under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and National Treasury Regulations.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong leadership, managerial, organisational, and strategic planning skills.
- Independent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with asset and liability suspense accounts and departmental debt policies.
- Excellent project management and presentation skills.
