What You’ll Do

• Provide comprehensive midwifery care to antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and neonatal patients.
• Lead and initiate obstetric programs such as PPP, PMTCT, CARMA MBFHI, and ESMOE.
• Manage obstetric and neonatal emergencies with appropriate treatments and timely referrals.
• Implement maternal and perinatal quality improvement programs, including clinical audits and mortality reviews.
• Supervise and mentor nursing staff, student nurses, and community service nurses in the maternity unit.
• Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control measures while maintaining patient safety standards.
• Maintain accurate patient records and statistics in line with Department of Health policies.
• Promote maternal and newborn health education, including breastfeeding support and family planning.
• Participate in continuous professional development and contribute to research and evidence-based practice.

What You’ll Need

• Matric/Grade 12 Certificate.
• Degree/Diploma allowing registration for General Nursing and Midwifery plus a post-basic qualification in Advanced Midwifery & Neonatal Nursing Science.
• Registration certificate with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and a current SANC receipt.
• For Grade 1: Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Nursing after registration.
• For Grade 2: Minimum of 14 years’ experience, with at least 10 years in the specific specialty.
• Strong knowledge of the South African Nursing Act, Public Service Acts, and maternity care guidelines.
• Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and conflict management skills.
• Experience in health information systems and data analysis.
