What You’ll Do
- Control and manage the supply of pharmaceutical products within the facility.
- Accurately compound and manipulate medicines or scheduled substances.
- Distribute pharmaceutical stock for timely stock replacement in various areas.
- Maintain meticulous data records and statistics for pharmacy operations.
- Prepare prescriptions and assist in dispensing medication under supervision.
- Address queries related to pharmacy matters and provide information as needed.
What You’ll Need
- Appropriate qualification for registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Pharmacist’s Assistant (Post Basic).
- Registration with SAPC as a Pharmacist’s Assistant (Post Basic) or (Institutional).
- Experience requirements vary by grade:
- Grade 1: No experience required post-registration.
- Grade 2: Minimum of 5 years’ experience post-registration.
- Grade 3: Minimum of 13 years’ experience post-registration.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to work overtime when necessary.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Department of Health, Western Cape.

Requirements
Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Pharmacist’s Assistant (Post Basic) Institutional or Pharmacist’s Assistant (Post Basic).Registration with a professional council: Registration with the SAPC as Pharmacist’s Assistant (Post-Basic) or Pharmacist’s Assistant (Post- Basic) (Institutional).
Experience: Grade 1: None after registration as with the SAPC as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post- Basic).
Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience after registration as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post- Basic) with the SAPC.
Grade 3: A minimum of 13 years’ relevant experience after registration as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post-Basic) with the SAPC.
Inherent requirements of the job: A valid driver’s license.
Willingness to work overtime when necessary.
Competencies (knowledge/skills): Good communication skills (written and verbal).
Ability to function independently, as well as in a multi-disciplinary team to ensure good patient care.
Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Department of Health Western Cape.
Job Duties
Responsible for the effective control and provision of pharmaceutical products.Responsible for the accurate compounding and manipulation of medicines or scheduled substances.
Responsible for the effective control and distribution of 222 pharmaceutical stock to areas within the facility for stock replacement.
Responsible for data capturing, record keeping, statistics gathering, information provision and the daily running of the pharmacy department including dealing with queries on pharmacy matters.
Responsible for preparation of prescriptions and assist with the dispensing of medication for individual patient use under indirect supervision of a pharmacist as per the Pharmacy Act.
