The Department of Health is seeking a dedicated Medical Specialist Grade 1 to 3 in Urology to join the esteemed team at Groote Schuur Hospital, located in Observatory, Cape Town. As a Medical Specialist, you will be involved in a wide range of responsibilities, including conducting major urologic surgeries and overseeing surgical clinics and emergencies. Your expertise will also extend to providing services at Eerste River and Western Cape Rehabilitation Hospitals, thereby ensuring that patients across multiple facilities receive the highest standard of care. What You’ll Do
- Lead and perform major urology surgeries, including laparoscopic and oncological procedures.
- Organize and contribute to surgical skills training courses for undergraduates and postgraduates.
- Manage the care of specialist urological patients at Groote Schuur Hospital and affiliated facilities.
- Oversee day surgery and surgical clinics, ensuring optimal care and support for patients.
- Engage in research initiatives that advance the field of urology and improve patient outcomes.
- Supervise surgical emergencies and ensure effective response and patient management.
What You’ll Need
- An appropriate medical qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Urology.
- Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Urology.
- For Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ experience post-registration as a Medical Specialist in Urology.
- For Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years’ experience post-registration as a Medical Specialist in Urology.
- Strong skills in performing urologic surgeries at a tertiary level, with experience in trauma, endourology, and renal transplantation.
- Research experience related to urology is advantageous.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and compliance with inherent job requirements, including compulsory commuted overtime.
