About the Role
The Department of Health is seeking a dedicated Medical Specialist Grade 1 to 3 in Anaesthetics to join the esteemed team at Groote Schuur Hospital in Observatory, Cape Town. What You’ll Do
- Manage specialist anaesthetic patients across various hospitals.
- Provide clinical services and ensure high-quality patient care.
- Engage in the academic leadership of under- and postgraduate teaching.
- Organise and contribute to anaesthetic skills training courses.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to registrars.
- Participate in administrative duties, including assessments and performance management.
- Collaborate with referring institutions to facilitate outreach and support.
- Foster a positive departmental team spirit and promote professional development.
What You’ll Need
- Appropriate qualification for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Anaesthesiology.
- Registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Anaesthesiology.
- For Grade 1: No experience required after HPCSA registration.
- For Grade 2: Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Medical Specialist after registration.
- For Grade 3: Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Medical Specialist after registration.
- Strong educational or teaching background in anaesthesia.
- Knowledge of health care challenges in South Africa and a commitment to diversity and equity.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven leadership capabilities in clinical anaesthesia and perioperative medicine.
