What You’ll Do
- Perform comprehensive andrology and embryology procedures in a clinical ART setting.
- Conduct intracytoplasmic sperm injections (ICSI) and other micromanipulation techniques with precision.
- Assess and process semen samples, including routine semen analysis and advanced sperm function tests.
- Prepare for oocyte retrieval, assess fertilization, and culture embryos following laboratory protocols.
- Execute cryopreservation of gametes and embryos using vitrification techniques.
- Conduct embryo biopsy for preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) when required.
- Maintain quality control and ensure compliance with laboratory standards.
- Collaborate with clinicians and ART specialists to enhance patient outcomes.
- Contribute to training, research, and development initiatives in reproductive biology.
What You’ll Need
- An appropriate qualification allowing registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Biological Scientist in Reproductive Biology/Clinical Embryology.
- Registration with HPCSA as a Medical Biological Scientist in Reproductive Biology/Clinical Embryology.
- Relevant experience depending on the grade:
- Grade 1: None after registration for RSA-qualified employees; 1 year for foreign qualified employees.
- Grade 2: Minimum of 10 years’ experience for RSA-qualified employees; 11 years for foreign qualified employees.
- Grade 3: Minimum of 20 years’ experience for RSA-qualified employees; 21 years for foreign qualified employees.
- Clinical experience in embryology and andrology, with proficiency in advanced laboratory techniques.
- Strong skills in ICSI, micromanipulation, and vitrification techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of quality control and laboratory accreditation standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a high-pressure clinical environment.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and research in reproductive biology.
