What You’ll Do

  • Lead and manage teaching and learning initiatives in the Clinical Department of Surgery.
  • Oversee community engagement and research activities to enhance departmental contributions.
  • Serve on various faculty and campus committees, chairing the Departmental Board.
  • Implement quality assurance and risk management strategies within the department.
  • Manage departmental resources, including human resources and financial aspects.
  • Develop and conduct daily academic programs for students and staff.
  • Promote outreach and in-reach programs to improve service delivery.
  • Participate in clinical audits, data management, and reporting on key performance indicators.
  • Mentor and support staff in their professional development and performance management.
  • Engage in ongoing research and facilitate undergraduate and postgraduate training.

What You’ll Need

  • An appropriate qualification for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Medical Specialist.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience as a Medical Specialist in Surgery.
  • Exceptional clinical skills, preferably in a public service environment.
  • Proven ability to develop training programs for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Strong leadership skills and a team-oriented approach.
  • Knowledge of relevant health and labour legislation.
  • A track record of published research will be an added advantage.
