The Department of Water and Sanitation is seeking a dedicated Engineering Technician (Production Grade A-C) in Kimberley. What You’ll Do
- Conduct stream gauging using both ADP and conventional methods.
- Survey gauging weirs and flood-rated sections with levelling instruments.
- Prepare technical drawings with CAD software.
- Calibrate and maintain flow gauging stations and electronic data logging instruments.
- Supervise personnel and manage inspection planning for maintenance activities.
- Edit and process hydrological data, compiling comprehensive reports.
- Provide technical support to various stakeholders as requested.
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other regulations.
- Engage in research and development initiatives to stay updated on technological advancements.
What You’ll Need
- A National Diploma in Civil Engineering.
- A minimum of three years of post-qualification technical experience in Civil Engineering.
- Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as an Engineering Technician.
- A valid, unexpired driver’s license.
- Strong computer literacy, including programming skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, coupled with negotiation abilities.
- Project management experience and skills in technical design and analysis of hydrological data.
- Competence in technical report writing and consulting.
- Problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills, alongside teamwork capabilities.
- Creativity, customer focus, and strong planning and organizing skills.
- Willingness to travel extensively and work away from the office for extended periods.

Requirements
A National Diploma in Civil Engineering.Three (3) years post qualification technical Civil Engineering experience.
Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as an Engineering Technician.
The disclosure of a valid unexpired driver’s license.
Good computer literacy and computer programming skills.
Good communication skills (verbal and written) and negotiation skills.
Experience in project management.
Technical design and analysing knowledge of hydrological data.
Knowledge and experience in Computer-aided engineering applications.
Technical report writing and technical consulting skills.
Problem solving, analysis, decision making and teamwork skills.
Creativity, customer focus and responsiveness skills.
Good planning, organising and people management.
Travel extensively as and when required.
Must be prepared to work away from the office for extended periods of time.
Job Duties
Stream Gauging using ADP and conventional stream gauging methods.Survey of gauging weirs and flood (rated) sections using the levelling instrument.
Preparation of drawings using CAD software.
Calibration of flow gauging stations.
Inspection planning of maintenance surface water gauging stations within the area of responsibility.
Maintenance of electronic data logging instruments.
Supervision of personnel.
Hydrological Data editing and processing.
Prepare technical specifications for procurement of the required resources.
Collection of all forms of hydrological data within area of responsibility and compile reports.
Provide technical support to requests received from stakeholders.
Ensure the compliance to the Occupational Health and Safety Act in line with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Engage in research and developmental activities for continuous professional development to keep up with new technologies and procedures.
